Governor Welcomes Icelandair Announcement

August 24, 2012, Juneau, Alaska - Governor Sean Parnell today applauded the decision of Icelandair to begin seasonal passenger direct flights linking Anchorage with Reykjavik. From Icelandair’s hub in Reykjavik, Alaskans can travel to many destinations in Europe served by the airline.

“I extend sincere appreciation to the President and CEO of Icelandair Group, Mr. Björgólfur Jóhannsson, and his team for their careful appraisal of the Alaska market over the past year,” Governor Parnell said. “I also commend the team from the Department of Commerce, Community & Economic Development, the Department of Transportation & Public Facilities, and Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport who worked closely with Icelandair to make this service a reality.”

The new seasonal passenger service will operate mid-May through mid-September 2013.
