Flags Lowered for Last World War I Veteran
March 14, 2011, Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell today ordered state flags to fly at half-staff on Tuesday, March 15, in honor and memory of Army Corporal Frank W. Buckles, the last surviving American veteran of World War I. President Barack Obama has issued a proclamation directing the U.S. flag be flown at half-staff on Tuesday as a mark of respect.
“As we honor the passing of the last American veteran who served during World War I, we remember all of the men and women whose selflessness, valor, and character helped to preserve our freedom,” Governor Parnell said.
Flags will be lowered from midnight to sunset on Tuesday, March 15 in honor of Frank Buckles.
