Child Care Provider Appreciation Day
WHEREAS, as Alaskans, we recognize the vital services provided by the child care community in our great state; and
WHEREAS, there are more than 6,500 individuals in the child care workforce; these workers make it possible for more than 29,400 parents and guardians of young children to join the labor force; and
WHEREAS, from birth to six years of age is a critical period for children’s healthy development; and
WHEREAS, the relationships between children and their child care providers, along with the providers’ education, experience, and skills, make a significant difference in a young child’s life; and
WHEREAS, access to reliable, high-quality child care programs that meet the needs of Alaska’s children and families is critical for parents to achieve and sustain self-sufficiency; and
WHEREAS, with our utmost gratitude and appreciation, Alaskans applaud the dedication of our child care providers and their ability to educate, stimulate, and promote healthy environments for our children;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sarah Palin, Governor of the state of Alaska, do hereby proclaim
May 8, 2009 as:
Child Care Provider Appreciation Day
in Alaska, and urge all Alaskans to take time to recognize and appreciate Alaska’s child care providers.
